Conquering the ‘Fear Fortress’ – Returning to a mathematics exam as a Community Practitioner Nurse Prescriber

Building confidence is essential for qualified nurses undertaking numeracy assessments. This qualitative research study explores self-reported levels of in at various stages the life-course, including when a test as part Community Practitioner Nurse Prescribing (CPNP) qualification. An hour-long, semi-structured focus group was conducted by authors, and resulting data thematically analysed. The authors explored experience CPNP students returning to learning exam environment, how this impacted on their confidence. Overall, high level use clinical practice, but strong anxiety, identified all participants. Participants reported an increase following successful achievement test, with some going display advanced skills practice. Teaching staff have responsibility support learners build throughout process conclude suggestions teaching setting.
